You'll never walk into our studio and find twenty children creating identical Picasso reproductions or following a template to make the exact same project. Why? Because someone has already created that work. Picasso painted his masterpieces. Van Gogh made his sunflowers. Those artistic expressions belong to their creators.
Our philosophy centers on one powerful truth: your child has their own artistic voice waiting to be discovered, not someone else's work waiting to be copied.
Inspiration vs. Imitation
There's an important distinction between drawing inspiration from the world around us and simply replicating what already exists. When children visit the Birmingham Museum of Art, they might feel inspired by the colors in a particular painting or the way an artist used texture. That inspiration can spark something entirely new and personal in their own work.
But when we ask children to copy someone else's creation stroke by stroke, we're teaching them that art has a "right" answer. We're suggesting that their own ideas aren't valuable enough to explore. That's not crafting—that's manufacturing.
